Education
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world
- Nelson Mandela
This was the first quote that I have come across as early as I could remember. Then I have seen it, heard it and written in my essays, countless times.
The essence it captures is beyond what I could explain. Still, I have some things to add further.
The education system that we now have was designed for the Industrial age when we needed 10 thousand doctors, 20 thousand accountants and you teach them just one skill and life was good.
Now, no matter which skill you learn it becomes obsolete by the time you graduate. The world has successfully transitioned into the knowledge economy. The amount of knowledge that we add in one year collectively is equivalent to what we had developed in past 200 years.
One experiment that I suggest is that students after their class 10th should be allowed to do internship for 2 months every year it could be local industries, visit to any advanced or new age technology workshop etc.
This would give them the early exposure and they can earn some money by doing microtasks. I firmly believe that giving them money, would also bring responsibility of how to manage their finances which many schools don't have a curriculum for.
This is needed now more than ever.
